A Kick – February 17, 2018

If Eastview is the prohibitive favorites based on past performance in AAA, their correlary in the A section would be Aitkin, followed closely by Cannon Falls.  Since 2003 – that is 15 years ago…that is four “generations” of high school students…there has only been one team that has won a state title not from Aitkin or Cannon Falls, that is the Yellow Medicine East team in 2008.  In that 15 year stretch, Aitkin has won eight, six of the last eight years, and Cannon Falls has won six times, last in 2013.

Class A Jazz – February 16, 2018

Aitkin is the defending state champion, but the competition will be fierce.  Yellow Medicine East and Duluth Marshall have been the teams to beat, although Frazee (2016) and Aitkin (2017) have won the last two state titles.  Class A Jazz will start on Friday – don’t miss it.

With all the Class A teams, we have, unfortunately, not seen many of them due to the ability (or lack thereof) of getting around the state easily.  We would love some of you to write us your favorite parts of the performances so that we can include a preview of the schools.  You can send us a letter to the editor at

Stay tuned to Minnesota Dance News for tid-bits and results from the state tournament as well as the best photo galleries in the state.  Please no photo requests.  We are unable to release any photos from the State Tournament.  The good news…you can view them for free at
